Common interview questions and how to answer them

Most interviews, regardless of role or industry, circle back to a handful of core questions. Knowing what's actually being tested lets you prepare answers that land instead of rambling. "Tell me about yourself" — this isn't an invitation for your life story. Interviewers want a 60-90 second walkthrough of your professional path: where you started, what you've built expertise in, and why you're interested in this role. Structure it as past, present, future. "Why do you want to work here?" — generic answers about "growth opportunities" fall flat. Reference something specific about the company, team, or role that connects to your own goals. "What's your biggest weakness?" — pick something real, show you're aware of it, and describe what you're actively doing about it. Avoid humble-brags disguised as weaknesses. "Tell me about a time you faced a conflict at work" — use the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Interviewers are listening for how you handle friction, not for a perfect resolution. "Where do you see yourself in five years?" — this checks whether your trajectory is compatible with the role. Be honest but frame it around growth within the kind of work the role offers. The common thread: interviewers aren't looking for perfect answers, they're looking for clear thinking under mild pressure. Prepare your stories in advance, keep them concise, and you'll handle 90% of what comes up.
